The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit institution founded in 1997 by a Royal Decree to combat cancer in Jordan and the Middle East region.

KHCF is the legal umbrella organization responsible for the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), the Foundation’s medical arm. The Foundation is comprised of a Board of Trustees, a dedicated group of prominent volunteers, chaired by HRH Princess Ghida Talal. The Director General of KHCF is HRH Princess Dina Mired, and Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan is the Director General of KHCC.

The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC)

The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is one of the best comprehensive cancer centers in the Middle East which treats both adult and pediatric patients. KHCC is named after our late beloved King Hussein who fought cancer in the same manner as he lived his life,  with great faith, courage and dignity.

KHCC treats over 3000 new cancer patients each year from Jordan and the region. It is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and services, including 6 operating rooms and 180 beds. It houses 18 beds in intensive care units - 12 adult and 6 pediatric. Highly qualified oncologists and healthcare professionals (over 150 oncologists and consultants) and 350 nurses, trained specifically in oncology nursing, work tirelessly to ensure that patients receive the latest in comprehensive cancer care. KHCC’s commitment to continuous education for its entire medical team, as well as a strong fellowship program, makes KHCC a world-class institution.

KHCC delivers comprehensive cancer care by treating patients as a ‘whole’, focusing on their physical, emotional and social well-being. In that regard, KHCC has established programs which focus on all stages of comprehensive cancer care from prevention and early detection, thorough diagnosis and treatment, to palliative care. KHCC offers many services to ensure that patients are supported throughout their difficult treatment with programs including a pediatric pain management clinic, survivor groups, a physical rehabilitation program, a nutrition clinic, a back-to-school program, a psycho-oncology clinic and play therapy.

KHCC treats all cancers and performs approximately 100 bone marrow transplants each year. The KHCC BMT program is one of the largest and most successful programs in the Middle East, achieving cure rates compatible with international standards. It oversees both matched allogeneic and autologous transplants. The KHCC BMT program performs transplants utilizing cord blood, making it the only program in Jordan and the second in the region which offers such a highly-specialized transplant. Non-cancer cases are also treated through the KHCC BMT program including thalassemia, aplastic anemia and other metabolic diseases.

As a testament to its ongoing pursuit of excellence, KHCC received its first international accreditation in 2006 from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as a general hospital, which was renewed in 2009. KHCC also received its second international accreditation in 2007 from JCAHO, as a disease-specific cancer center. In 2009, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of KHCC was also awarded an international accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This international accreditation testifies to the exceptional high quality of KHCC’s pathology and laboratory services.
