Jordan Green Building Council

Location: Amman, Jordan

The mission of the Jordan GBC is to introduce, promote and advocate for appropriate green building concepts and practices in the Jordanian building & construction sector. However, we look forward to evolving and expanding into a recognized regional leader in developing and implementing innovative green building practices in every possible aspect.

During the set up phase of the Jordan GBC global and regional models and concerns were taken into account as well as the national response and priorities for addressing such issues. Moreover, differentiating factors, we believe, will assist in positioning Jordan and its Green Building Council on regional and international levels. It should be emphasized that the our strategic direction is the result of our vision and would be subject to review as we move ahead with implementing the strategy and getting more people on board. Our common belief in the cause is what brought us together and we will continue to work with hearts and minds focused on making a difference. Our team strongly realizes that the success of the Jordanian GBC will only be possible if we could reach out to all the groups in the society and discover their relevant interest and added value.

In 29 May 2009, the Jordan GBC Core Founding Group received – and in response to the Expression of Interest sent to the World Green Building Council – a letter of approval from the World GBC granting the group sole authority to establish the Jordan GBC, along with a support letter for sponsors. The group is given one year to apply for emerging member status.

In August 2009, the Jordan GBC accepted the generous invitation from the Development Zones Commission (DZC) to be physically incubated at the DZC's premises for at least a period of one year. The DZC has also been hosting the founding board meetings since July 2009. Prior to that, Jordan Architect Society (JAS) kindly hosted the founding board's meetings. The JGBC deeply appreciates this support.

In December 2009, Jordan GBC became officially a Jordanian non-for-profit organization.
